moblogging and the holy moment
i was tipped off by seb’s post and now i’m hopelessly addicted to moblogging via Flickr (i am blogging this post from within the Flickr site - web services we love you, tra la, tra la!). There is something about moblogging from the phone that offers an entirely new perspective on blogging. It is so immediate, so ubiquitous and immersive. i am not sitting down to blog - i am going about my (ab)normal life and blogging it. Less separation between “real life” and “blog life.”
i find that i notice and pay attention to small details more, and seek to collect them. i post my spontaneous capturing of my wanderings and get back a reverse chronological, visual logbook of my life. This passes the “good enough” test, hits warp speed and turns out a fun, unique, loosely structured remix of my life.
i keep thinking about this in context with the “holy moment” meme from Richard Linklater’s excellent film, Waking Life. Moblogging is a convenient medium through which to express that idea - that the holy moment is really every moment, if we can tune into it properly. So here is each person having her own series of holy moments, and then we can think about the billions of other people having their own series of holy moments - and the world is starting to look pretty holy at this point. There’s a lot to appreciate. Look closely. Look where you don’t normally look. Life happens in the most unexpected places.
